As outlined in our Policies page, Sustainable Australia Party supports a science and evidence-based approach to policy.
Sustainable Australia Party has developed a broad policy platform, however, as a minor party with limited resources, we do not have a policy on everything. For example, we do not have a policy response to every new government or opposition announcement.
If elected, issues and legislation outside of our policy platform would be properly reviewed and addressed on their merits, in a science and evidence-based way with appropriate and inclusive engagement, including with a range of experts, the community and our party members.
A further key reason why SAP does not have policies on some issues, including some social conscience issues, is that such issues have not been the focus of our party in its initial or ongoing development. We simply don't have a material number of party members pushing our National Committee to adopt stronger or weaker laws on areas outside of our policy platform.
We do however recognise the importance of various issues outside of our policy platform to some in our community, and respect that people have different views.
Again, if elected, issues and legislation outside of our policy platform would be properly reviewed and addressed on their merits by SAP MPs, in a science and evidence-based way with appropriate engagement. SAP values drive an inclusive and respectful approach to democratic consultation.
SAP has no plans to advocate for law changes in areas outside of our policy platform.
Political activists
SAP understands that some political activists and opponents will try to misrepresent this genuine non-policy position into a "pro" or "anti" position.
We reject this framing and this style of politics.
We also understand that the same political activists and opponents will try to find something that one SAP online supporter, member, candidate, or elected councillor or MP has said about an issue the party does not have a policy on (including conscience votes by a SAP MP), then claim that this is a SAP policy.
We also reject this framing and will not allow pressure or bullying from any side of any complex debate to dictate its policy positions.
Does SAP support Pine Gap?
As an example, SAP does not have a policy on whether we support the operation of the USA-run Pine Gap intelligence-gathering facility on Australian soil.
Some will claim this makes SAP anti-US, while others will claim it makes SAP pro-US.
This is absurd, and again, SAP rejects this style of political campaigning.
SAP's mission
SAP will stick to its mission to DE-CORRUPT POLITICS for a fair and sustainable Australia.
Our plan:
- Put our environment first
- Basic income for all ($500+pw)
- Stop over-development
- Slow population growth
- End the housing crisis
- A diverse economy
There's much more. See Policies.
Direct democracy
Most importantly, SAP supports Swiss-style direct democracy through our 'Anti-corruption & Governance' policy, where the community has the right to the final say on any issue based on citizen-initiated referenda.
For a fair and sustainable Australia,
