Preferences (how to vote SAP)?
As an independent community movement, after you Vote 1 for Sustainable Australia Party, we ask that YOU consider deciding where to direct your own preferences.
You can and should decide your own preferences in all elections, if you want to.
Voting above the line is the simplest and easiest way to vote, however the SAP HTV card provides you with the choice to decide your own preferences by voting below the line, while still voting 1 Sustainable Australia Party:
Also see Kelvin's blog here outlining how to improve the Victorian Upper House voting system by removing the problematic regions and group voting ticket.
Should you wish to vote above the line, SAP distributes its preferences via the 'group voting ticket' taking into account the following considerations:
- Prioritising minor parties and independents
- An alignment of values and policies
- Whether the other party agrees to preference SAP
- Whether the party was generally respectful towards SAP in public commentary (for example, unfortunately two significant 'progressive left' parties made numerous disparaging misrepresentations regarding SAP in social media and/or the Victorian Parliament)
- Pragmatic considerations around the likelihood of getting a Clifford Hayes MP re-elected under this system
- Roughly divided between all three major parties (Labor, Liberal/National, Greens)
