MEDIA RELEASE: Sustainable Australia Party joins Farrer race to champion affordable housing now, evidence-based antidote to left-right culture wars

Sustainable Australia Party is running in the 9 May Farrer By-election and has announced its candidate as Lucas James Ellis.

Sustainable Australia Party is pleased to announce Lucas James Ellis as its candidate for the 9 May 2026 Farrer By-election.

Lucas is a dedicated community advocate with a deep-seated commitment to Australia's economic, environmental and social sustainability, from affordable housing to health and water issues.

Lucas brings a fresh, evidence-based perspective to the political arena. He holds a Bachelor of Sustainable Communities (with Distinction) and is currently completing a Masters of Urban Planning at UTS by distance, ensuring he has the academic and technical expertise to address the complex challenges facing the Farrer electorate. Professionally, Lucas works in the planning sector in Albury, providing him with an invaluable, hands-on insight into regional infrastructure and community development.

"I am excited to be endorsed by Sustainable Australia Party as its candidate for the May 2026 Farrer By-election and also the March 2027 NSW Election in the electorate of Albury. Having had many conversations at local markets and events over the last month or more, the community has identified affordable housing as the number one campaign issue, particularly for younger Australians, women in crisis and pensioners. We need affordable housing now, the sustainable way," said Mr Ellis.

"The best way to make change is to get involved in the community and particularly politics. I joined Sustainable Australia Party as it best aligned to my values and addresses key housing, environmental, population growth and corruption issues that all Australians, and particularly younger generations like myself, are concerned about."

"This is an extremely competitive election and I understand that minor parties like SAP are not backed by billionaires, political funding companies or big unions, but equally, our grassroots style of campaigning is authentic and community-first."

"Our independent community movement looks forward to taking it up to the big boys and girls with a science and evidence-based approach to policy - the best antidote to left or right ideology and culture wars," added Mr Ellis. | Ends
